THE SIXTH ANNUAL PRO-AM GOLF TOURNAMENT IN CUBA
January 2013 ‐ Habanos Esencia and Palmares SA are proud to announce the benchmark fifth annual Montecristo Cup which will be held on April 11-13th 2013 at Varadero Golf Club, Cuba. The exciting three‐day event will include:
Friday April 11th ‐ Registration (handicap certification by appointment) and practice. and the evening Welcome Party.
Saturday April 12th- Sunday April 13th There will be two tournament days of individual play. The 2014 Inaugural Glenfiddich Cup will be given to the best individual gross score from those days. The 2014 Montecristo Cup will be given to the best individual net score from those days. The competition is open to those with a handicap of 24 or under (men) or 30 or under (women).
The event is being hosted by the Varadero Golf Club and Palmares SA in association with Esencia Group. The Montecristo Cup is being sponsored by Habanos, the purveyors of the world´s finest cigars.
British golfer Tony Jacklin, winner of The Open and the US Open, says: "Cuba is an ideal location for golf tournaments and has a bright future with regards to courses. The Montecristo Cup and Esencia Cup tournaments lead the way offering a challenging and enjoyable game… plus where else can you light up a cigar and strike the ball!” .
The awards dinner will take place following the competition on Sunday April 27th at the Xanadu Mansion, which was built in 1930 and was once the luxurious residence of the Dupont family, and is within the grounds of the Golf Club.

Varadero Cuba, April 2012 – On April 20th and 21st, Palmares SA, the organization responsible for golf development in Cuba, hosted the third annual Montecristo Cup at the Varadero Golf Club in Cuba.

Tony Jacklin to design Cuba’s latest golf course at The Carbonera Club
British developers the Esencia Group and their Cuban partners Palmares are delighted to announce their partnership with the Jacklin Design Group. Tony Jacklin CBE will assist in the design of the ocean fronting 18 hole championship course at The Carbonera Club www.thecarboneraclub.com. Located just outside Varadero on the islands spectacular northern coast, The Carbonera Club is a new five star resort, one of only four golf resorts under final negotiation on the island. Spaniard Wins in Dubai in Up-and-Down Round
Associated Press, 13 Feb 2011 Álvaro Quirós won the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates with a wild round that included a hole in one and a triple bogey. The 70th-ranked Quirós, of Spain, shot a four-under-par 68 to finish at 11-under 277, one stroke ahead of Anders Hansen of Denmark (70) and James Kingston of South Africa (67). Tiger Woods and Sergio García each shot a 75 to finished tied for 20th at 284.
