THE FOURTH ANNUAL PRO-AM GOLF TOURNAMENT IN CUBA
Tony Jacklin invited as guest of honour for the second time
Palmares SA, the organization responsible for golf development in Cuba, with Esencia and Habanos, hosted the second annual Montecristo Cup at the Varadero Golf Club in Cuba.
Players enjoyed three days of golf under clear blue skies at this spectacular seaside course located 75 miles east of Havana with the opportunity to win The Esencia Cup and The Montecristo Cup.
Open to amateurs and professionals, this fourth annual tournament once again was a sold out event of 120 players coming from 15 countries: Germany, Canada, Korea, France, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, United States, Ireland, Aruba, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Russia and Cuba.

The weather was challenging… the event was supported by a well received whisky tasting of Auchentoshan 3 woods and an elegant gala dinner at the Xanadu mansion on Saturday night. The guest of honour was Tony Jacklin CBE, the most successful British player of his generation and the most successful European Ryder Cup captain ever.
Mr Howard Yin (Canada) won the Montecristo Cup and received a fine Cuervo y Sobrinos watch. The runner up was Guillermo Herrera (Cuba). and Leather goods from Asprey. Both Players and runners up were presented with cigars by Habanos SA, the world’s leading premium Cigar Company and owner of the world famous Montecristo brand.
Esencia Group, who are partnered with Palmares to develop a number of golf resorts in Cuba, presented Tien Do (Vietnam) with the Esencia Cup - a Scottish quake made by Bowmore Distilleries and a 3 day golf stay at the exclusive Nam Hai Hotel Hoi an Vietnam. The Second prize went to Antonio Castro, (Cuba). Both winners received Leather goods from Asprey.
The ladies champion Ms Annie Blanco (Cuba) took home the inaugural Palmares trophy with Ms. Anna Picquet (France) in second place.

Tony Jacklin to design Cuba’s latest golf course at The Carbonera Club
British developers the Esencia Group and their Cuban partners Palmares are delighted to announce their partnership with the Jacklin Design Group. Tony Jacklin CBE will assist in the design of the ocean fronting 18 hole championship course at The Carbonera Club www.thecarboneraclub.com. Located just outside Varadero on the islands spectacular northern coast, The Carbonera Club is a new five star resort, one of only four golf resorts under final negotiation on the island. Spaniard Wins in Dubai in Up-and-Down Round
Associated Press, 13 Feb 2011 Álvaro Quirós won the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates with a wild round that included a hole in one and a triple bogey. The 70th-ranked Quirós, of Spain, shot a four-under-par 68 to finish at 11-under 277, one stroke ahead of Anders Hansen of Denmark (70) and James Kingston of South Africa (67). Tiger Woods and Sergio García each shot a 75 to finished tied for 20th at 284.
