The 2012 Esencia Cup
In 2012, there will be two days of individual tournament play in Varadero, Cuba. The Esencia Cup will be given to the best individual gross score from these days.
The competition is open to those with a handicap of 24 or under (men) or 30 or under (women). Official certification of their handicap is required by all players and must be shown to the Club.
Past tournaments
2011 Esencia Cup
2011 was an individual event with the best gross score rated over two days of play. The Esencia Cup was won by Daniel Batista of Cuba, with a combined score of 150 for two rounds of golf; he received an original painting by the renowned Cuban artist Ernesto Villanueva.
2010 Esencia Cup
2010 was a teamplay event with the best individual net score taken from the two players. Esencia Hotels and Resorts, who are partnered with Palmares to develop a number of golf resorts in Cuba, presented Cuba's Helwis Gonzalez (handicap 15) and David Villafana (handicap 16) with The Esencia Cup. They accepted a pair of Air Europa business class return tickets to London. They won with a best net score of 62.
2009 Esencia Cup
The Esencia Cup 2009 was won by a Cuban national Yorkis Cabrera (with the best gross score of 72) after an initial draw resulted in an exciting sudden death putting competition.
Royal & Ancient, the home of Golf in Scotland, donated clubs to the Cuban Government to support the development of golf in Cuba. These were presented by Andrew Macdonald, CEO of Esencia Hotels and Resorts.
